After he won the 2016 Assembly elections, he took his oath as a Cabinet Minister on May 24, 2016. The BJP leadership put him in charge of the newly formed North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), whose primary job was getting different regional parties to fight the Congress, which was seen as a shared enemy.

Life Story & Career
Himanta Biswa was born on 1th February 1969 in Assam, India. His father’s name is Kailash Nath Sarma and mother’s name is Mrinalini Devi. Himanta Sarma was promising since childhood. Therefore, he was more interested in studies. So, his parents got him enrolled in Kamrup Academy for primary education.
Admitted to Cotton College Guwahati for further education. He received his degree in political science from Cotton College in 1992, and from 1991 to 1992 he was the general secretary of the college’s student union. This was the first phase of politics.
He then studied Law from a government school and obtained an LLB degree, After receiving his degree, he received his PhD from the university of Guwahati. Since then, he started writing Dr. in front of his name. After receiving his LLB degree, he served as a lawyer in the Guwahati High Court from 1996 to 2001. Meanwhile, he married Riniki Bhuyan.

Himanta Biswa Sarma was learning legal tricks in the Guwahati High Court as a lawyer. At the same time, he joined the Indian National Congress in 2001 and contested and won for the first time from the Jalukbari Assam Assembly Constituency.
