Tirath Singh Rawat Biography/Wiki

Indian politician Tirath Singh Rawat belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He grew up in the remote village of Seeron, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, the Himalayan state where he was born. He went to HNB Garhwal University in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, and earned a master’s degree in sociology.

Mr Rawat joined full-time politics through student movements after being involved in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad student group because of his passion for social service. He has been a pracharak with the Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

An original Bharatiya Janata Party supporter, he spent two months in prison for his role in the Ram Mandir Aandolan. He began his political career as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, but he later became active in establishing a separate state of Uttarakhand.

Tirath Singh Rawat was the country’s first education minister after the Himalayan region gained sovereignty. He has also held positions with the Bharatiya Janta Party at the national and state levels, including president of the Uttarakhand state unit and general secretary.

He won the 2019 Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency election and now serves on several parliamentary committees. He became Uttarakhand’s next chief executive on March 10, 2021. Tirath Singh Rawat, the hill state’s chief minister, unexpectedly resigned after only four months in office due to a legal need.

When he took office as chief minister of Uttarakhand, Rawat was already a member of parliament. He must win re-election to the state legislature to continue serving. With the state legislature’s tenure expiring early next year, it seems highly improbable that the Haldwani and Gangotri seats would hold by-elections.
