Anju Bobby George Career
Anju first showed signs that she could become a national sports star when she won a medal in the long jump at the 1996 Delhi Junior Asian Championship. Anju set a national record in the triple jump event at the Bangalore Federation Cup 1999 and won the race.
After that, she improved at every game and started beating her records. She won gold in both the long and triple jumps at the 2001 Ludhiana National Games. A bronze medal was hers when she cleared 6.49m at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.
Anju had also competed in the Asian Games twice. In 2002, in Busan, she won a gold medal in the long jump event; in 2006, in Doha, she got a silver medal in the same event. By clearing 6.70 m, Anju won a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics.
He was the first Indian athlete to win an award at that event. She made it to the 2004 Olympics in Athens with a personal best jump of 6.83 m, which put her in fifth place and still holds the Indian national record.
